I.  Calendar

1.  Ask a partner for the date. (hỏi một người bạn về ngày)

  • Example:
  • Hanna: What date is today? (hôm nay là ngày bao nhiêu)
  • Harry: Today is Thursday, 20th, January, 2011.
  • Watch out!

   Pronounce it like this (phát âm như sau): The twentieth of January 2011.

2.  Ask 5 people for their birthday. (hỏi 5 người bạn sinh nhật của họ)

Cindy: When is your birthday? (sinh nhật bạn là khi nào)

Thomas: My birthday is on 21nd August. (sinh nhật mình vào 21 tháng 8)

Cindy: When were you born? (bạn sinh năm nào)

Thomas: I was born in 1997.  (mình sinh năm 1997)

  1. On which days of the week do you have maths in school?

  (ngày nào trong tuần bạn có  toán ở  trường)

  • When do you have English?
  • When do you have history?
  • On which day do you have no school?

  1. When is the Vietnamese Women’s Day (Ngày Phụ nữ Việt Nam)?

II. Time (giờ)

  1. Past (hơn)
  2. Examples:
  3. Twenty past nine / Nine twenty: 9 giờ 20 phút
  4. Half past nine / Nine thirty: 9 giờ 30
  5. Quarter past nine / Nine fifteen: 9 giờ 15

2.  To (kém)

  • Examples:
  • Ten to nine: 9 giờ kém 10 hoặc eight fifty: 8 giờ 50
  • Quarter to nine (9 giờ kém 15) hoặc eight forty five (8 giờ 45)
  • Watch out!
  • morning (buổi sáng): Nine am (9 giờ sáng);
  • afternoon and evening (buổi chiều hoặc tối): Nine pm (9 giờ tối)

3. Exercise:Practice with a partner. (thực hành với một người bạn)

Example:

Rose: What time is it?

Mary: It’s 25 past 7 am.

Rose: Oh no I’m late for school.

III.School

1.  Read and practise the dialogue with a partner.

a) Favourites

Mary: What subjects do you like? (môn học nào bạn thích?)

Rose: I like literature, art and English. (mình thích môn văn, vẽ và tiếng Anh)

Mary: What’s your favourite subject? (và môn học bạn thích là gì?)

Rose: My favourite subject in school is music. I love music. It is very interesting and our teacher is funny. But I hate maths. (môn học mình yêu thích ở trường là âm nhạc. Mình thích âm nhạc. Nó thật là thú vị và giáo viên của mình rất hài hước. Nhưng mình ghét toán)

Mary: Me too.

b) Exercise:

Ask your partner what subject he/she likes, what his/her favourite subject is and what subject he/she does not like.

  1.  Read the dialogue.

a) Timetable (thời gian biểu)

Susan: I don’t have my timetable here. What subjects do we have today?

Megan: Today is Tuesday. On Tuesday we have maths, geography, history and English.

Susan: Oh, when do we have literature? I have my literature homework here.

Megan: On Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Susan: At what time do we have geography lesson?

Megan: We have geography at 9.30. Now it’s 9.20. We are too early.

b) Exercise:

Write down your timetable: On Monday at 7.15 am I have … At … am I have …

IV. My day

1. Read the text.

Tom’s routine (thời gian biểu của Tom)

Every morning, I wake up at 6 o’clock and get up at 6:15. After this, I get dressed and brush my teeth. At 6.30 I wash my face and comb my hair. Then I have breakfast at 6:45.

Today is Monday, so I take a bus and go to my school. In the bus, I meet my friends and read a newspaper or study English. My classes start at 7:15. At 8:00 I have a break. I finish class at 11 o’clock. I go home at 11:30, change my clothes and have lunch with my family. I wash the dishes and I take a nap at 12:15.

In the afternoon, I get up at 2 o’clock. I listen to music and do housework in the afternoon. At 6 o’clock, I help my mother to cook dinner and we eat dinner at 7 o’clock.

In the evening I take a shower and do my homework from 7:30 to 9 o’clock. Then I watch TV, play games or use the computer. I go to bed at 10 o’clock.

 2.   Answer the questions.
